CST 489-499 - Modules 1 - 8

 Weeks 1 - 8

This is the first week of CST 489-499 - Fall 2025 Capstone, and this journal entry summarizes what we did in the planning section of the course. 

First let's start with the main objective of the prep course. The capstone project can be worked on as a small team, or as an individual. In my case, I’m working with a team, and our project proposes a mobile application that allows the user to track and organize board game nights with friends. For instance, a user can schedule a game night session with their friends, keep track of scores, who won or lost, upload photos of the session, earn achievements, etc. Part of what was done so far was to develop a proposal paper for the project which goes in depth into the general idea of how we are going to approach the project, and important factors to keep in mind, such as risks and dependencies. After which we were able to start our development of the project.


Other than the capstone project, we were also tasked with updating our LinkedIn profile, cover letters, resumes, and our course work portfolios.

CST 338 - Module 4

 This week in CST 338, there were few assignments to complete. This time we got to get our hands on Android Studio, where we created very simple app where android users can convert temperature °c to temperature °f, or vice versa. We also got to complete our first project, where we practiced inheritance using an abstract class, and concrete classes. However, besides that, we were also allowed to go back to our previous assignment, Markov, and have our teammates review each other's code. I worked with my teammate Ryan Matsuo  and after reviewing his code, I learned a few things that could help me in the future, like splitting a string using str.split() with a regex of "\\s+" instead of what I did which was more complicated. CST 438 - Module 1

 Week 1, This is the first week of the course CST 438 Software Engineering. The contents of this first module are to first teach of the main differences between software engineering and programming. Both involve programming, but software engineering also takes into account the maintainability and sustainability of code over time, which can be influenced by many factors. There are a few terms brought up by the textbook "Software Engineering at Google by Winters, Mantric and Wright" which can be helpful to remember such as Hyrum's Law, shifting left, the Beyonce Rule, etc. Additionally, we were introduced to the REST API, which stands for Representational State Transfer, and allows us to exchange and manipulate data over the internet using the common HTTP methods such as GET, POST, DELETE, and PUT. CST 462s - Module 8

Week 8, This is a short week as most final weeks of CSUMB’s online courses are. However, I would like to take this opportunity to talk about my experience in Service Learning. I think for the most part, everything went well with my site. My site mentor was very helpful and kind and has many sources that can help one who wants to learn more and contribute. Something I would improve on is spending less time on a report that may not have enough information on reproducing a bug. I believe that the site is impactful as a whole, while what I have done individually in the last few weeks may not be immediately impactful, everyone working together to help improve LibreOffice can help make a difference in providing a powerful productive office suite that can become available to anyone with a computer.
